North Central SHRM to host safety seminar

The North Central SHRM group will host a safety and HR legal seminar on Thursday, February 16. The seminar will be held at the Heartland REMC Building, in the community room at 350 Wedcor Drive, Wabash, Indiana. The seminar is sponsored by Indiana Tech, Beacon Credit Union and EcoWater Systems.
The seminar will have a morning and afternoon session. The speaker for the morning session is Bob Hoffman, Professional Safety Consulting LLC. His session will run from 8 to 11:30 a.m. with registration from 7:30 to 8 a.m.
Hoffman is a safety professional with over twenty years of experience in industrial, construction and transportation safety in both union and non-union environments. Hoffman is an expert in workplace hazard reviews, risk management analysis, safety audits and employee training to meet OSHA compliance standard requirements. His experience ranges from employee safety training for one of the nation’s largest trucking companies to risk management reviews and workplace hazard analysis for manufacturing, construction and foundry operations.
Hoffman is a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and has completed both the OSHA 10-hour and 30-hour safety courses. Hoffman recently retired as director of safety & training for Rochester Metal Products foundry, a company with over 340 employees. Topics include: OSHA Updates, Ergonomics in the Workplace/Lifting Procedures, Return to Work Fitness Test, Required Employee Training, Safety Culture Development and Sustainment. The morning session is preapproved for 3.25 SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP and PHR/SPHR credits.
Anthony (Tony) M. Stites, J.D., Attorney at Law, Barrett & McNagny LLP will speak in the afternoon session. The afternoon session will run from 1 to 4 p.m. with registration from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Stites represents business entities, ranging from very small to Fortune 100 companies, in handling all facets of their employment matters, including contract negotiations, labor arbitrations, NLRB proceedings, discrimination charges and suits, and worker’s compensation claims.
Stites works on a daily basis with human resource personnel and in-house counsel to solve and prevent problems in the employment arena. A frequent speaker, he has spoken at local seminars for the National Business Institute and the Counsel of Education in Management and seminars including the Defense Research Institute’s Seminar on Litigation. Stites also speaks at various local and regional human resources professional seminars. Topics include: DOL Salary Update, OSHA’s New Recordkeeping Rules, Hidden Drug Testing Rule, Election Results and the Impact and a question and answer session.
The cost to attend the seminar is $20 per person per session. If a company sends more than five attendees, the cost is $10 per person per session all payable at the door.
