Nominations sought for Historic Places awards

The Department of Natural Resources, Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology, are seeking nominations for the Governor’s Award for the Preservation of Historic Places.  Applications are due September 1, 2011. Nomination forms can be found at

Started in 2010, the Governor’s Award for the Preservation of Historic Places recognizes outstanding grassroots efforts that have preserved Indiana’s cultural heritage.  The effort or project recognized by the award should have been completed within two years prior to the application deadline, and, if applicable to the nature of the project, must meet professional preservation standards.  Candidates may be individuals, local governments, or small not-for-profit organizations that have made an important contribution to Indiana preservation through volunteer work, innovative practices or leadership.

Applications may be submitted either electronically or in hard copy; hard copy submissions must be postmarked by September 1, 2011.  The recipient will be announced at an event in December marking Indiana Statehood Day.
