Neighbors Unite Event to be held on April 23

Pathfinder HomeOwnership Center in association with the Parkview Huntington Family YMCA and Huntington Habitat for Humanity is proud to announce a free community leadership event, Neighbors Unite: Growing our Community Together. The event will be hosted by St. Peter First Community Church and will take place April 23 from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Anyone interested in a grassroots approach to improving our Huntington community block by block, neighborhood by neighborhood is invited to attend. Topics for the event include Planning Neighborhood Events/Projects presented by Richard Strick, pastor at St. Peter First Community Church, and Ruth Ann Price, missionary-in-residence at Huntington University. Dave Dangler, director of rural initiatives for NeighborWorks America will discuss the importance of community building efforts and will also provide a breakout session about recruiting neighbors to a cause and working collaboratively. The second breakout session to be offered is centered on fundraising and community resources presented by Jenna Strick, executive director of the United Way of Huntington County and Michael Howell, executive director of the Huntington County Community Foundation. A final presentation will be given by Bryn Keplinger, about working with the city to successfully hold events or complete projects.

Lunch fare from local eateries will be provided as well as child care. Each attendee who receives a certificate may be eligible to apply for $500 to further their collaborative community project within the city limits of Huntington. Pathfinder Home Ownership Center is the community development division of Pathfinder Services and was created in 1997.
