Nashville veteran to perform at Event Center

Posted: Friday, August 30, 2019

Country Western performer Carolyn Martin, who is described by Superstar Vince Gill as “a great swing singer,” will bring her unique musical style to the Cottage Event Center in Roanoke on September 20. The performance, which starts at 7:30 p.m., will raise money for Riley Hospital for Children.

Carolyn Martin was born in Texas, where the style of Country music known as Texas Swing originated. Texas Swing has been popularized over the decades by artists like Bob Wills, Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett and bands Asleep at the Wheel and Riders in the Sky. Another popular Texas Swing group is The Time Jumpers, which has included Vince Gill and which Martin was a member for eleven years. Carolyn and her husband David were successful studio musicians in Nashville for a number of years before moving to Indiana to be a part of the growing studio business being done at Fort Wayne’s Sweetwater Sound.

Among the accolades Martin has received over her career are Western Swing Female Vocalist of the Year (three times), Hero of Western Swing by the Cowtown Society of Western Music, and induction in both the Southwest and Northwest Western Swing Societies Halls of Fame.

Tickets are $12 and available at John’s Meat Market in Roanoke, online at, or by calling (260) 483-3508. Food and a cash bar will be available. Sponsor for the event is First Federal Savings Bank of Huntington.
