Movie Day at Sheets Wildlife Museum

Posted: Thursday, October 10, 2013

Sheets Wildlife Museum and Learning Center will have a movie day on Saturday, October 19.  The movie is free and for visitors who would enjoy a tour of the museum, the price will be $1. The movie begins at 10:30 a.m. and will last approximately 40 minutes.

The movie Sheets Wildlife Museum will be showing is Gorillas from the Heart of Darkness. Romain Baertsoen, a Belgian diplomat, arrived in Rwanda in 1966 and started to film one of the country’s most closely guarded secrets – the gorillas of the Viruga Mountains. Baertsoen learned how to behave with these enormous animals. Baertsoen learned through trial and error; being charged by a 400 pound Silverback was not something he wanted to repeat. Visitors will witness young gorillas playing, resting and feeding. In one extraordinary incident, gorillas try to help a dog that is caught in a trap by using sign language. Baertsoen also filmed spectacular footage of one of the Congo’s erupting volcanoes. The cooled lava provides a fertile land, and a thrilling view of fantastic flora and fauna.

There will be an easy quiz with the top three youth viewing the movie, receiving a gift certificate to be used in the museum gift shop. Seating is limited and it is suggested that those wishing to view the movie call (260) 356-9453 to reserve a seat.
