Moms-to-be invited to Open House at PHH

Posted: Friday, September 15, 2017

The prospect of becoming a mom for the first time or again can be joyous, but a bit intimidating as well. It helps to have a supportive team around you to guide and encourage you. That’s why Parkview Huntington Hospital is inviting expectant moms, and women considering motherhood in the near future, to an informal open house on Thursday, September 28, from 4 to 6:30 p.m.

Guests at the event can tour the hospital’s Family Birthing Center and meet the team of dedicated, compassionate nurses, including birth planner and lactation consultant Angie Swanson. In addition, moms-to-be can chat with two clinical professionals who are seeing new female patients of all ages (and delivering babies): Ryan Allen, DO, Parkview Physicians Group – Family Medicine, Shelly Boone, NP, CNM (certified nurse midwife), Parkview Physicians Group – OB/GYN.

Establishing a relationship with caring healthcare providers is the key to fostering a healthy pregnancy for both mom and baby. Good nutrition and exercise are, too, so a clinical dietitian and an exercise specialist will offer helpful eating and exercise tips. And what mom doesn’t need a little pampering? Guests will enjoy a chair massage courtesy of a Parkview Huntington physical therapist, along with some delicious sweet and savory treats. They can even create a take-home aromatherapy favor and enter to win a prize drawing.

The Family Birthing Center offers free childbirth and breastfeeding classes, as well as sibling classes to help big brothers and sisters understand their new role when baby comes home. Information will be available on these classes, as well as comfort measures during labor, ways to personalize each mom’s birthing experience to reflect her wishes and needs, and many other maternity-related topics.

The open house will take place in the lower-level classrooms at Parkview Huntington Hospital, 2001 Stults Road. Space is limited. Reservations are required. Call (260) 355-3311 by noon on September 27 to reserve a spot so you can find out about the benefits of becoming a Parkview Mom.
