Minicks to compete in Triple Play Challenge

Posted: Friday, November 21, 2014

A local family has been one of 25 families selected to participate in Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Triple Play Fit Family Challenge. Though hundreds of families applied to take part in the challenge, Angela Minick and her two children, Gabbie and Eli, were selected to take part and were the only family from Indiana to be selected.

The Triple Play Fit Family Challenge is designed to help families from across the country incorporate principles from BGCA’s signature health and wellness program, Triple Play, into their lives over a period of three to six weeks. In line with the three components of the Triple Play program, families that participate in the Challenge will learn and practice healthy eating habits (MIND), be more physically active (BODY) and spend quality time with each other (SOUL). Challenge activities include participating in fitness and social activities as a family, trying new fruits and vegetables and eating smaller portions.

The Minicks have already completed some family challenges and are submitting a weekly log of their progress. So far, they have added exercise into their routine, switched from 2% to 1% milk, and focused on healthier eating habits. If they are selected as one of the top 5 families from this group, the whole family will win an all-expense paid trip to Florida to compete in the Triple Play Fit Family Challenge Finale.

If families would like to take part in the Minick’s journey, they are welcome to participate in a “Cooking Session with the Minicks” on Wednesday, November 19 at 6 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club. Angela will be teaching the group how to make healthy wraps that the family can make at home. Please call the Club at (260) 359-1750 to reserve a spot.
