Miller's Merry Manor warns public of scam

Posted: Saturday, September 10, 2011

Miller’s Merry Manor in Huntington would like to make the public aware of a dangerous scam that is circulating in the Huntington area. An employee of Miller’s received what looked to be a legitimate letter and check from Lazore’s Construction Company in Akwesasne, New York. It was later discovered that this letter and accompanying check were fraudulent.

The letter states that the Lazore’s Construction Company has been delegated the right to construct major roads in your neighborhood by the Federal government. The consequence of that is that the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has cleared the company to enforce this mandate. The letter goes on to say that the citizen is to be paid a specified amount of money ($2,100) as this is a community development program. In turn the person is to send back a specified sum of money ($1,050) to the construction company’s agency for insurance coverage during the period of construction.

Anyone receiving this letter should disregard the information, not call the number shown and above all send no money to the construction company. Anyone ever in doubt to the validity of information of this type should call the Better Business Bureau or the local law enforcement agency in our community.
