Meeting to decide Regional Cities committee

Posted: Friday, July 17, 2015

The group that will make the recommendations on who will receive Regional Cities Initiative funding took shape this week. The Indiana Economic Development Corporation Policy Committee made appointments to a strategic review committee on Wednesday, July 15 during a public meeting at the IEDC building in Indianapolis.

The committee will review recommendations from regional development authorities later this year, and then make formal recommendations to the State Budget Committee and IEDC board. Earlier this month, the three-county Regional Cities of Northern Indiana collaboration said, if it is selected for funding, the initiative would spark more than $200 million in investment. Michiana Partnership president Regina Emberton says a steering committee has identified more than 50 projects that could receive support.

The steering committee behind northeast Indiana’s bid completed its final step in June to formalize its application. The Northeast Indiana Regional Development Authority covers 11 counties and includes 16 cities. Ten organizations statewide are believed to be vying for a piece of up to $42 million in matching funds.
