McDonald's opens with ribbon cutting Thursday

Posted: Friday, September 16, 2011

The newly re-built McDonald’s restaurant located at 60 Home Street opened for business on Thursday, September 15 at 4 a.m. According to Britt and Denise Sather, owners of the local franchise, business was extremely busy on their first day after the 12-week hiatus. The former McDonald’s building was torn down to make way for the new $2 million-plus facility.

The new McDonald’s has seating for 99 people, up from 55 in the old building. There are 14,000 McDonald’s restaurants in the nation and fewer than 20 have this design. It is the only one of its kind in the state of Indiana and the location has been owned by the Sathers for 16 years. Britt Sather stated that he approached the McDonald’s Corporation about building the new facility because he wanted to do something for the employees and the community of Huntington. Denise Sather said it was the first time the restaurant had been closed since it opened in 1978 – that is 33 years.

The restaurant features an ultra-modern look and high-end feel. Inside includes an updated ceiling and lighting, stainless steel kitchen and points in the dining and order area, upgraded flooring, new menu boards in the restaurant and drive-thru and two drive-up order lanes and windows.
