Mayor delivers State of the City address

Mayor Steve Updike delivered the State of the City address on Friday, February 11 at Parkview Huntington Hospital. The Mayor discussed topics such as the economy of the city, the future of Nature’s Fuel and how it will affect the city of Huntington, Cinergy MetroNet, Continental Structural Plastics, Onward Manufacturing, Helena Chemical, Future Manufacturing, Perfection Wheel, Central School Apartments, the separation of storm and sewage water, upgrading and modernizing the sewage plant, and future projects. On the drawing board for 2011 are sewer projects on Salamonie Avenue and Frederick Street, fixing the digester at the water plant, a new water treatment plant on 300W and 600N, rebuilding and widening Hauenstein Road, improving the lighting and storm water drains on Etna Avenue, and infrastructure on Beaty Drive to include water, sewage, and curbs. Updike said “Things were looking up in the city after a rough couple of years. I’m happy things are turning around, I believe in our city.” The Mayor also said he will announce this coming Tuesday that he will seek re-election to the office.
