Master Gardeners to present gifts from the garden

Posted: Thursday, October 14, 2010

The Huntington County Master Gardeners will present a free forum, “Gifts from the Garden,” on Thursday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m., in Heritage Hall at Hier’s Park, Huntington.

Several Master Gardeners will display and demonstrate garden-related projects they have mastered over many years. From a central station, the Master Gardeners will describe their individual “gifts” and then move to an assigned location, where their demonstrations will occur. The items created by these Master Gardeners make ideal gifts for any gift-giving occasion.

- Betty Heffelfinger, a gold-level Master Gardener, will explain how she creates note cards with photographs taken of her gardens. Instructions and a display will be available.
- Silver-level Master Gardener Maxine Firnhaber will demonstrate how she creates objects with dried flowers. Some of her creations will be on hand as well.
- Master Gardener Kay Lillie will have available potpourri samples that she has created from flowers and herbs from her garden.  See her recipes and learn how she does it.
- Master Gardeners Sharon Ernst and Betty Jo Wallace will share their expertise at creating elaborately designed gourds. Sharon will demonstrate drying and cleaning gourds, and Betty Jo will craft artistic masterpieces.
- Liz Sanders, who has consistently demonstrated her prowess at cooking with herbs and edible flowers, will present even more herbal epicurean entrées.
- Master Gardener Susan Miller will bring vegetable breads to taste and show how to dress up as a gift.

Reservations are required. To make a reservation, call (260) 358-4826 by Nov. 1. Light refreshments will be provided.
