Malta Burger open on South Jefferson

Posted: Thursday, June 23, 2011

The Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting on Wednesday, June 22 at the official opening of the Malta Burger on South Jefferson Street. The Malta Burger is in the location of the former Burger Palace, across from the former Marsh Supermarket. The new restaurant offers burgers, hot dogs, turkey legs, fries, soft drinks, their famous Malta Burger and more. The manager of Malta Burger is David Bye with the remainder of the staff made up of residents of the Malta House, a local men’s shelter. The executive director of the Malta House is Pastor Kellie Herber. All proceeds from the Malta Burger will benefit the Malta House. The Malta House also operates the Malta House Thrift Store in downtown Huntington. Donations of clothing and household items are accepted by the Thrift Store for resale with the proceeds also benefiting the Malta House.

Shown in the ribbon cutting photo are supporters, dignitaries and board members of the Malta House and Chamber ambassadors. At left is, Steve Kimmel, executive director of the Chamber; directly in the middle behind the bow is Pastor Kellie Herber; next is Teresa Kaylor and at far right is Mayor Steve Updike. Teresa Kaylor was the inspiration behind the Malta House beginning the Malta Burger restaurant.
