Main Street façade program makes changes

Posted: Friday, March 23, 2018

The City of Huntington, in partnership with volunteers from Main Street Huntington, has offered Main Street façade and roof grants to commercial properties in designated grant areas since 2010.

As the city prepares for the 2018 grant cycle, it has made changes to the program in response to its popularity. A newly established Commercial Façade & Roof Grant (CFRG) Program will now replace the Main Street Grant program, allowing Main Street volunteers more time to pursue other projects and state grant opportunities to enhance the downtown area.

The name change is primarily due to the fact that the grant areas have expanded significantly in recent years to cover areas beyond just the downtown, notes Bryn Keplinger, director of Community Development and Redevelopment. Many of the program guidelines and eligible projects remain the same; however the new grant program will be administered by the City’s Community Development & Redevelopment Department. Grants will now be awarded all year long and feature quarterly application deadlines on the first of January, April, July and October.

Information on the new grant program, along with applications and maps of eligible areas, are available on the city website at by selecting the Commercial Façade & Roof Grant tab under the Community Development & Redevelopment page.

Main Street Huntington is an award-winning Indiana Main Street community by the State of Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs. Since 2010 the Main Street Grant program has leveraged over $482,000 in private investment through the award of 78 grants.
