Indiana Main Street, a program operated by the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs, has named The New Huntington Theatre as the Main Street Business of the Year for 2012. The business is owned by Huntington businessmen Rich Najuch and Joel Froomkin.

The award is designed to honor a Main Street business that is leading its community’s revitalization efforts and was presented at Main Street’s 2012 conference in Kokomo on October 11. Najuch and Froomkin have partially restored the former Huntington Theater building in downtown Huntington and are continuing the restoration to the remainder of the building.

Several letters were written nominating Najuch and Froomkin for the award including letters from Tina Bobilya, executive director of the Huntington County Visitor and Convention Bureau; Ann Siegfried, representing the Huntington Arts Initiative and Debbie Dyer, representing the LaFontaine Arts Council.

Najuch and Froomkin bought the theater in June of 2007 and renovated the lobby into the Huntington Supper Club. Live shows began in this area in June of 2008. They plan to stage live shows in the theater’s main auditorium upon its completion. The Huntington Arts Initiative, a community organization in the beginning stages of restoring the former opera house in downtown Huntington, was also organized by the pair. Najuch and Froomkin are also actively involved in the Huntington community and Najuch is an active board member of the local Visitor and Convention Bureau and the Chamber of Commerce.
