Local law firm awards scholarships

The Huntington County law firm of Bowers, Brewer, Garrett & Wiley, LLP has announced the winners of their 2015 educational scholarships. Merrideth Goetz received the James W. Bowers Scholarship in honor of the late James W. Bowers. Kaitlyn Oswalt and Nathan Lundy also received scholarships to be used toward their continuing education.

Shown in the photo at left, along with Bob Garrett, second from left of the law firm, are Merrideth Goetz, second from right, the daughter of Ron and Julie Goetz, Huntington. She plans to attend Indiana Wesleyan University majoring in Communications and Public Relations. Goetz has been active at Huntington North High School in track, cheerleading, homecoming, Campus Life, student leaders and small groups. She has also been involved with Love, INC., Humane Shelter service projects, Soup Kitchen volunteer, mission trips, H20 Student Ministries and Blessings in a Back Pack.

Kaitlyn Oswalt, left, is the daughter of Chris and Heather Oswalt, Huntington, and will be majoring in nursing at Huntington University. Oswalt has been involved at Huntington North High School with volleyball, student athletic board, basketball manager, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, freshman mentoring, Inclusion Club, Spring Musical, Class Council, peer tutoring, Campus Life, student leaders, National Honor Society and small groups. She has also been involved with the Markle Church of Christ Youth Group, Master’s Pantry, Relay for Life, Karing for Kids and a Pioneer Festival volunteer.

Nathan Lundy, right, is the son of Pastors Kent and Marti Lundy, Huntington, and plans to attend Butler University with a double major in Political Science and Religious Studies. At Huntington North, Nathan has been active in swimming, tennis, National Honor Society, Class Council, Student Council, freshman mentoring, math tutor, Campus Life and student athletic board. He has participated in the Rotary Youth Leadership Academy, coordinator of CanStock at Evangelical United Methodist Church, Red Bird Mission volunteer, mission trip volunteer to Ecuador and is an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America.
