Local family to receive keys to new Habitat home

Posted: Thursday, December 13, 2018

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Fort Wayne, along with community leaders, supporters, homeowner families and friends, will celebrate the completion of construction on a brand-new home on 1354 Drover Street at a dedication ceremony on Monday, December 17, at 4 p.m. The ceremony will be celebrated with an open house and community reception immediately following from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

Home sponsors for Habitat Greater Fort Wayne’s first-ever Huntington build include Sure-Trac by Novae, Ecolab, UPSTAR Alliance, Huntington University, Crosby Excavating, JJ’s, Innovative Packaging and Knights of Columbus Women’s Auxiliary. During the ceremony, the sponsors will congratulate and hand over the ceremonial keys to the new homeowners: the Lavine family.

Following the dedication ceremony, attendees are invited to tour the new three-bedroom, two-bath, single family home, which was made possible by generous sponsors, donated materials, volunteer labor and the dedication and commitment of the homeowner family.

“I’ve always wanted me and my children to have our own house, but I could never really afford it. This experience has been amazing and I have learned so much along the way.” said new Huntington homeowner, Darian Lavine.

Like all Habitat homeowners, the Lavine family contributed 400 hours of “sweat equity” working on the construction of their home and participating in educational programs designed to strengthen the entire family and help to ensure their success as new homeowners. The new homeowner will continue to make monthly payments on a low-cost, zero-interest mortgage, which in turn will go toward building more Habitat homes.
