Literacy Services seeking volunteers

Posted: Friday, September 7, 2018

The Literacy Services of the Huntington City-Township Public Library is seeking current and potential volunteers for its tutor training workshops, to be held at 6 p.m. on September 27 and October 4, 11 and 25 at the Huntington Library. The first workshop will be an introduction to the tutoring services offered by Literacy Services, and anyone with potential interest in volunteering as a tutor is encouraged to attend. The remaining sessions will be training for current and future tutors.

Literacy Services is always seeking new tutor volunteers to help child and adult students in reading, spelling, math and English as a Second Language (ESL), from basic to advanced levels. Anyone interested in tutoring is encouraged to register for the first workshop by contacting Dawn Schmidt, Literacy Specialist, by calling (260) 356-0824.

The Literacy Services department of the Huntington City-Township Public Library was previously the Huntington County Literacy Coalition, which recently dissolved at the end of June. The Huntington City-Township Public Library absorbed the services, staff and volunteers of the Literacy Coalition, creating the Literacy Services department and carrying on every service the Literacy Coalition offered Huntington County.
