Library to host third annual Fun Palace

Posted: Friday, September 6, 2019

The Huntington City-Township Public Library will host a Fun Palace again this year. Fun Palaces are a global campaign to bring hands-on activities for all ages to libraries in communities around the globe, and the Huntington Library is excited to host their third consecutive Fun Palace. The Huntington Library’s 2019 Fun Palace will take place Saturday, October 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, October 6 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Huntington Library.

Some of the many hands-on activities planned include: Beekeeping with John and Jeanne Paff; the Gongfu-Cha, or Chinese Tea Ceremony, with Chace Olinger; Touch-a-Truck with the Huntington Fire Department; Falconry with Kirk Strass; various tech-based games, including Virtual Reality with an Oculus Rift, Wii games, Minecraft, and more; Toddler Palace and sensory play with the Children’s Department; Instrument Petting Zoo thanks to Copper Chord Music; LARPing (Live Action Roleplaying) with Amtgard; Yoga for adults and dance for children with the Fort Wayne Dance Collective, and more. All activities at Fun Palaces are hands-on and completely free, so this is a great opportunity to try new things.

The Fun Palaces campaign originates out of the United Kingdom and promotes culture at the heart of community and community at the heart of culture. The weekend of action uses the combination of arts, crafts, science, tech, digital, heritage and sports activities, led by local people for local people, sharing their own passions and skills, as a catalyst for community-led transformation, with active participation for all ages.

If you have a hobby or skill you’d like to share with the greater Huntington community, the library is always seeking more activity hosts for the Fun Palace. To sign up, contact Linda Smith, Reference Assistant, at the Huntington Library by calling (260) 356-0824 or emailing
