Library putting together calendar, needs photos

Posted: Thursday, September 28, 2017

The Huntington Library is tackling a project a bit different from its usual course. The library wants to create a county-wide wall calendar. The calendar will feature some of the county’s largest events, school dates, library programs and more, and will be for sale starting in December. What the calendar needs from the community, however, are photos. The library wants to feature photos taken by the community, and is asking all community photographers, hobbyists and professionals alike to submit photos for entry.

Library staff will accept photos featuring the following themes: Emergency Responders, Disability Awareness, Child/Teen Aid or Assistance, Downtown Huntington, 4-H, Huntington County Schools, Pioneer Festival, Family History & Genealogy, Outdoor Activities (hunting & fishing, water & outdoor sports, etc.), and the Sunken Gardens during the holidays. All photos must be submitted with the name of the photographer (for photo credit) as well as signed permission from every person in the photo giving consent to appear in the calendar. Photos will be selected based on their alignment with the given themes and overall quality in both photography skill and image resolution. To submit, email your photos to A release form can be provided upon request. The deadline to submit photos is Monday, October 16 at 8 a.m.

October’s impending arrival means it’s almost time for the Huntington & Markle Library’s annual Pumpkin Decorating Contest. Open to all ages, as well as teams the contest’s pumpkin delivery window is October 21 to 23 with judging October 24 to 26. The contest takes place at both the Huntington and Markle Libraries. Pumpkins will be judged in a variety of categories, including Most Unusual, Funniest and Cutest, as well as by age range and whether it’s done by an individual or group. Everyone is invited to enter. Just remember, pumpkins must not be carved in any way, only decorated.
