Posted: Thursday, March 16, 2017

The Huntington Library will host a couple of food-related programs early in April. Children age eight to 12 will learn the basics of baking cookies in the Cookies Everywhere workshop at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 3. Those in attendance will practice their culinary art skills by baking an assortment of cookies including chocolate chip, snickerdoodles and sugar cookies.

Teens will get to try their hand at spicing up ramen noodle soup, the staple college food, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 5. The Huntington Library invites teens to a Gourmet Ramen workshop, as part of the Teens in the Kitchen program series. Learn how to turn a humble packet of ramen soup into a nutritious meal, including dessert. No cooking experience is necessary for those who wish to come.

“Escape rooms” are all the rage right now. These puzzle and teamwork-filled games are a great way to think outside the box and enjoy some light adventure. The Huntington Library will be hosting some breakout room sessions for tweens and teens ages 11 to 17, themed around the latest Harry Potter series of films. The breakout sessions take place at 3 p.m. on April 5 in Markle and 3 p.m. on April 6 in Huntington. Friends are welcome.

Saturday, April 8, is Tartan Day. The Huntington Library will be celebrating with an afternoon full of Scottish-themed food and activities. There will be performances by a bagpiper and tenor drummer at 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m., a showing of the Pixar film “Brave” at noon, Scottish folk tales at 2 p.m., and a variety of Scottish food for sampling and crafts for all ages from noon to 4 p.m. There will also be interactive displays on the various tartan patterns and clans, as well as Scottish words. The entire afternoon is for all ages.

The Huntington Library is located at 255 W. Park Drive. The Markle Library is located at 155 W. Sparks Street, Markle. For more information on these or other programs, visit the library’s website at http://hctpl.info or email ask@hctpl.info.
