Library offers 24/7 online branch

Posted: Friday, October 19, 2012

The digital age is changing the way people do almost everything in their daily lives – even how they use their local library. Huntington City-Township Public Library cardholders are no exception.

The library’s new website now features a digital branch – a one-stop shop for a host of electronic services – eBooks, eAudiobooks, the Tumblebooks animated e-book library for children, genealogical information on HeritageQuest Online, Inspire Indiana, and an extensive list of databases and online resources available for free to library cardholders any time, day or night.

“Our patrons really love the range of resources that are instantly available to them now,” said Library Director Kathy Holst. “Our downloadable eBooks are our most popular resource, but people are also very excited about the Chilton’s Auto Repair database, the Learning Express Library test prep site, our new Price It! Antiques database, the Powerspeak Language learning site, and the DIY Legal Forms collection. We also have great online resources for small business owners, medical professionals, travelers, genealogy and history buffs, and especially for students at every level, from kindergarten to postgraduate work.”

To help patrons get more familiar with all the different resources they can now access anytime from home, the Library staff will offer a free Database Demonstration class at 6 p.m. on Monday, October 22 in the meeting room at the Main Library in Huntington. No registration or computer equipment is required; however, patrons are encouraged to bring a tablet, laptop or other internet device if they wish.
