Library looking for individuals to write poems

Posted: Thursday, April 2, 2015

To celebrate Indiana’s Bicentennial, the Indiana Bicentennial Commission is helping Brick Street Poetry, Inc. create a “birthday book.” The book will contain poems featuring Indiana’s 92 counties including Huntington. The Brick Street Poetry, Inc. board will hold a poetry contest for each county so that residents can write and submit the poetry themselves for a chance to have it published in the birthday book.

Current residents having lived in Huntington County at least one year and any non-resident born in Huntington County, having been a resident for at least twelve years, are eligible to submit one poem for the book. These poems may be up to 40 lines in any form, but their subject must be one that adequately represents Huntington County. The book will be published by the end of 2015 in preparation for 2016’s Bicentennial Celebration.

To submit your poem, please email it and your full name and contact information (such as phone number and/or preferred email) to the Reference Desk at the Huntington City-Township Public Library at ref@hctpl.info no later than Friday, April 24. The judging panel will consist of library staff from the area who will select the top three to five entries to send to the Brick Street Poetry, Inc. board for the final vote to include it in the birthday book. For questions, please feel free to contact the Reference Desk at (260) 356-0824 or ref@hctpl.info.
