Leonard named Government Leader of the Year

Posted: Friday, November 18, 2016

Dan Leonard, 50th District State Representative said Vice President-elect Mike Pence will have a “great deal of influence” on the incoming Trump administration, which he believes could be good news for Indiana businesses. Leonard (R-50), who was honored Tuesday, November 15 as the Indiana Chamber of Commerce’s 2016 Government Leader of the Year, hopes Pence pushes to ease environmental and building code regulations, which he says would create a more business-friendly environment.

Leonard owns South Side Furniture of Huntington, which he purchased from his father in 1978. He says Pence, along with what he calls a “business-minded president” in Donald Trump, could “do a great deal” for businesses. He says, in business, “You have to learn how to work with people. “That is a big advantage for me because I’m in retail and I work with people on a regular basis - different people with different views and different thoughts.”

The Republican was honored by the Indiana Chamber Tuesday at its annual awards dinner in Indianapolis. Around 1,500 business and community leaders attended the annual event. Other honorees include Atlanta-based Beck’s Hybrids chief executive officer Sonny Beck, as Business Leader of the Year, Carmel-based pi lab as Vision 2025 Dynamic Leaders of the Year and Fishers as the Community of the Year.
