LAC names Mendenhall as speaker, November 5

The Lafontaine Arts Council’s fall fundraiser, “Fashions for the Arts,” will be held starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 5 at the Historic Forks of the Wabash. In addition to the luncheon, silent auction and fashion show with clothes from Chico’s modeled by local women; the annual event also features someone who speaks about the importance of the arts, especially in the lives of children.

This year Susan Mendenhall, president, of Arts United of Greater Fort Wayne will speak as the Arts Advocate.

Mendenhall is a passionate advocate for the vibrancy of Greater Fort Wayne and the role that the arts and cultural sector plays as an economic catalyst. She currently serves as president of Arts United of Greater Fort Wayne. Prior to being named president in January 2014, she was Arts United’s director of resource development with primary responsibilities in fundraising and grant administration. Prior to her work at Arts United, Mendenhall held fund development positions with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and the Fort Wayne Philharmonic. Mendenhall holds an M.A. in Philanthropic Studies from the Indiana University School of Philanthropy (now known as the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy) and a B.S. in Public and Non-profit Management from the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs. She lives in Fort Wayne with her husband, Derek, an automation engineer at Fort Wayne Metals, and daughter, Claire.

Tickets for “Fashions for the Arts” are currently available from any LAC board member or can be reserved by calling LAC executive director Debbie Dyer at either (260) 358-0055 or (260) 356-8874. All proceeds from the event go toward the Lafontaine Arts Council’s “Arts in Education programming, which brings quality arts-related experiences to all students in Huntington County.
