Kids Kampus' annual KinderGarden

Posted: Friday, July 1, 2011

Pathfinder Kids Kampus child care center of Huntington, “A Caring Place to Go and Grow” broke ground in the sixth annual “KinderGarden” on Friday, June 24 at the garden located off of Ruth Street near the child care center in Huntington. The children and teachers of Pathfinder Kids Kampus will maintain and grow various herbs, fruits, vegetables, and plants at the garden within walking distance of the child care center.

Kids Kampus administrator Lisa Mettler, Jim Scheiber, who donated many of the fruits, vegetables, and flowers to be used in the “KinderGarden,” Erich Eller, who tilled and prepared the garden for planting as well as donated plants, were all on hand for the dedication. Pathfinder Kids Kampus would also like to thank the ThEatery at the New Huntington Supper Club along with Psi Iota Xi Sorority for their donations towards a tiller. A special thank you goes to Jerry Harvey, who donated the land for the “KinderGarden,” but was unable to attend the dedication.

“We use gardening again this year as an opportunity for the children to build a love and understanding of nature and social interaction,” stated Lisa Mettler, administrator of Kids Kampus. “The garden provides a real world hands on experience to bridge academics with real life experiences.  It takes the classroom outside to the beautiful summer weather where children can continue to learn new and exciting things.” Mettler added.
