Posted: Tuesday, March 22, 2011

Pathfinder Community Connections, the Community Development division of Pathfinder Services, received an $800 donation from Jones Abstract & Title Co. for scholarships for the division’s Home Buyer Education classes and Financial Fitness workshops.

Mike Nichols, president, Rose Sneary, chief title officer and senior vice president, and Julie Haines, office manager for Jones Abstract presented the check to Jan Baumgartner, director, and Natalie Fisher, homeownership education coordinator for Pathfinder Community Connections.

The donation will allow for Pathfinder Community Connections to offer one individual home buyer education class on what it takes to own a home and one individual financial fitness workshop which work with families on improving their financial health and overall credit for free each quarter.

“We are grateful for our donation and partnership with Jones Abstract and for their support of our Home Buyer Education classes and Financial Fitness program,” noted Fisher. “We encourage anyone in the community looking to buy their first home, or wanting to get a handle on their credit and/or financial situation to contact us so we can work with them through these programs,” Fisher concluded.

The home buyer education classes work with potential homeowners on topics such as:
* Is owning a home right for you?
* Steps in the home buying process,
* What is a mortgage?
* Other costs of home ownership,
* How much house can you afford?
* Developing a spending plan,
* Improving your credit score,
* Definitions of: escrow, appraisal, and equity
* Predatory lending

The financial fitness workshops work with potential homeowners on the following topics:
* Financial planning in easy steps,
* Purdue Extension’s “Where Does Your Money Go?”
* All about credit scores & reports where participants will receive their report for free,
