Indiana named Best State Government

Posted: Friday, July 14, 2017

Indiana has been named the Best State Government by U.S. News & World Report. The ranking is based on the fiscal stability and budget transparency of Indiana’s state government.

Indiana’s new two-year budget as reported in a recent communication from State Senator Andy Zay, continues the state’s strong reputation for responsible spending. Zay reports the two-year budget will keep the budget balanced, puts education first and maintains rainy day reserves.

Indiana is fighting the drug epidemic with new laws addressing prevention, enforcement and treatment, also according to Zay’s report. During the 2017 legislative session, laws were also addressed to improve the state’s education system for Hoosier children by replacing the outdated ISTEP exam, providing high schoolers multiple options to earn a diploma and giving schools more flexibility to meet their budget needs without raising taxes. New legislation was put in place to help veterans. For more information visit
