Indiana Dream Center presents Steps for Success

Posted: Friday, August 1, 2014

The Indiana Dream Center is a volunteer-driven organization that finds and fills the needs of individuals in the community. This year the Dream Center is excited to present the 5th Annual Steps for Success event on August 9, beginning with registration at 8 a.m. with the opening at 9 a.m.

In the previous years Steps for Success has served 700 plus school-aged students by providing free tennis shoes to help jump start students into a great new school year. This year the Dream Center is going to be doing just that, along with offering so much more.

The Indiana Dream Center will be providing free: tennis shoes for students in grades K through 12, socks, food, carnival games, sno-cones and more. The organization is also excited about working with many other organizations that will be serving that day or have donated to the event. The Dream Center would like to thank everyone for volunteering their time and resources to make this day an incredible community event for students and their families.

Donating organizations include the Awakening Community Church, Boys and Girls Club, Central Christian Church, Community Link Federal Credit Union, Downtown Salon, Griff’s The Cutting Edge Salon, Little Debbie Local Hairstylists, McKenzie’s Hope, Owen’s Supermarkets, Salvation Army, Dean Foods, Upwards Sports, Wal-Mart and the Youth Services Bureau. We would also like to thank Love INC and the Huntington County Chamber of Commerce for helping spread the word about this event.

The event will begin with registration at 8 a.m. and the kickoff will begin at 9 a.m. We will close registration down from 9-9:20 during the kickoff and opening and re-open at 9:20 a.m. Items will be given out by a first-come, first-serve basis, while supplies last so please come early to register. Student must be present to receive the items.

In addition to the Steps for Success event, we will also be having a clothing giveaway at the Dream Center Thrift Store located at 501 N. Jefferson Street on Thursday August 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. Each student will receive seven items of clothing. There will also be free haircuts for students at area salons that evening. This is also a first-come, first-serve basis and for students in grades K though 12 who must be present.
