Huntington ranked 30th safest city in Indiana

Posted: Friday, July 10, 2015

A security organization that compiles FBI data to find the safest cities in Indiana found multiple cities in its viewing area on top of the list, including Ligonier, Columbia City and Huntington. Safewise pulls data from last year’s FBI’s Uniform Crime Report and finds cities that have at least a population of 4,000 people and have the lowest crime rates in the state.

In order to analyze the crime data fairly and make it simple to compare, Safewise calculates the chance of violent crime and property crime happening out of 1,000 people. Ligonier, the second safest city in Indiana for 2015, had no reported incidents of violent crime and its crime rate is listed as 87 percent lower than the average American city. Others listed in the area are Winona Lake at number 5; Columbia City 16; North Manchester 23; Auburn 24; Decatur 26; and Huntington 30. The safest city in Indiana was Zionsville.
