Huntington Nursery buys Wehr Into Flowers

Posted: Friday, July 6, 2012

Wehr Into Flowers, long time Huntington floral business, became a part of Huntington Nursery and Florist on Sunday, July 1. The Yarger family, owners of Huntington Nursery, purchased the business from Rose Wall who has owned Wehr Into Flowers for 15 years.

Wehr Into Flowers will close on Monday, July 9 with all operations taking place at Huntington Nursery and Florist. Wall has agreed to work part time at Huntington Nursery and Florist and according to owner Jim Yarger, “We are going to be taking her employees, when all is done, we will have six floral designers on staff.”

Wall explained that she originally purchased Wehr Into Flowers from Cynthia Wehr who owned it for several years, totaling around 30 years of business between the two owners. The reasons behind her selling the business, “I have many things I still want to do. I want to get involved in some other things in town and do some traveling with my family.” She continued, “The opportunity presented itself, and it seemed like it was meant to be and is such a perfect fit.”

Wall said that she along with her husband Tom had decided to sell the business at the end of last year and were hoping for it to be sold by the end of this year. She talked about the sale, “When you are in the floral business, your customers become your friends. You are with them in the happiest of moments as well as the saddest. From the beginning, I was concerned about selling because of my customers and my employees. I feel by selling to Huntington Nursery that they will take care of my customers the way I would and they are going to be acquiring my employees. That makes me feel really good.”

Jim Yarger explained that Huntington Nursery will offer more opportunities for Wehr customers in the way of gift items, a broader variety of retail items and bereavement plaques. He continued, “Our goal is to treat Wehr Into Flowers’ customers with the same top-notch service they received from Rose Wall. Rose emphasized to us before we purchased the business how important her customers were to her. She wanted to make sure all her customers would be treated the way they were accustomed to being treated.”

Lisa Yarger said that “We see no changes at this time. People can expect to receive the same level of customer service they have come to expect from Wehr’s.”

Jim explained that Huntington Nursery and Florist will add on work space, storage and more retail space. “By owning Wehr’s, it will help us diversify more. We felt this acquisition and the merging of these two businesses made perfect sense. We believe it is a perfect fit to build upon what we already have here at Huntington Nursery and Florist.”

The Yarger family purchased Huntington Nursery in 2008 from Wayne Fox. It is the fifth year in business and the fourth year in the floral business. Jim explained the services available at the business, “We have landscaping and landscape design, lawn installation and design, mowing, lawn care, tree planting, mulch, floral arranging, hardscape with concrete, a gift shop, garden center and of course our yard barns.”
