Huntington County HELP offers scholarships

Huntington County HELP is offering a minimum of five scholarships in the amount of up to $1,500 each to students who are majoring in fields of study that promote service to individuals with disabilities. Among those fields of study considered are speech and hearing, special education, physical and occupational therapy, nursing, medicine, counseling and social work, as well as other areas of study in the medical and mental health areas.

Students must be residents of Huntington County and must have completed their freshman year of college to be eligible for this scholarship. Current freshman may apply, but will need to provide proof of completion of required credits to attain sophomore status, prior to receipt of the scholarship. Graduate students in the specified areas of study are also eligible. Students must be able to demonstrate a commitment and desire to work with individuals with disabilities.

Huntington County HELP will award a scholarship in memory of board member and caseworker, Jane Nes. The Jane Nes Memorial Scholarship, in the amount of up to $1,500, will be awarded to a Huntington County resident who is pursuing a degree in nursing. Applicants must be enrolled as a full or part time student in an accredited institution of higher education with an accredited nursing program. Specific criteria are provided on the Huntington County HELP website.

Huntington County HELP is also offering a scholarship in the amount of up to $1,500 in memory of board member, John Decker. The John Decker Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a qualified applicant, who is a resident of Huntington County; is a graduating senior in high school, or enrolled in an accredited institution of higher education and who meets one of the following criteria: Applicant has had an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) during their years in school; Applicant is a client of Vocational Rehabilitation Services and applicant has documentation from their physician verifying the presence of a disability. Specific criteria are also provided on the Huntington County HELP website.

Applications must be submitted online and are available at the Huntington County HELP website at Applications will be accepted through March 13, 2015. Supporting documentation may be sent online attached to application. Mailed materials/applications will not be accepted this year.
