Huntington County HELP, Inc. offers scholarships

Huntington County HELP, Inc. for disabled citizens will award a minimum of five scholarships of up to $1,500 each to students who are working toward degrees in special healthcare fields. Specific areas of training that will qualify for awards include: speech and hearing, special education, physical and occupational therapy, nursing, pediatric, orthopedic and other medical and/or mental health specialties.

Recipients at the time scholarships are awarded must be a college sophomore, junior, senior or a graduate student; must be enrolled as a full-time student and must be a resident of Huntington County. Huntington County HELP, Inc. will award a scholarship in memory of long-time board member and caseworker, Jane Nes. The Jane Nes Memorial Scholarship in the amount of up to $1,500 will be awarded to a Huntington County resident who is a student enrolled as a full-time or part-time student in an accredited institution of higher education and who has been accepted into their nursing program with the intent of becoming a registered nurse.

Also awarded will be a scholarship in memory of board member, John Decker. The John Decker Memorial Scholarship, in the amount of up to $1,500, will be awarded to a Huntington County resident who is a high school senior, or a student enrolled as full-time or part-time student in post high school studies and has a qualifying disability as identified below. The John Decker Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a qualified applicant who meets one of the following criteria: the scholarship applicant has had an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) during their years in school. The scholarship applicant has been a client of vocational rehabilitation services. The student shall obtain documentation from their physician written in letter form to the HELP, Inc. scholarship committee, verifying the presence of a disability and identifying the conditions that qualify the student as eligible for a HELP, Inc. scholarship as a student with a disability.
