HU Foundation breakfast to honor veterans

Posted: Friday, October 30, 2015

The Huntington University Foundation breakfast on Wednesday, November 4, will honor area veterans and servicemen and women currently serving in the military. The guest speaker will be Marine veteran and Indianapolis Colts’ spokesperson, Corporal Josh Bleill, who will share his impactful story of tragedy and triumph.

Marine Corporal Bleill is a native of Greenfield, Indiana. After completing his education at Purdue University, Bleill joined the United States Marine Corps in 2004, and was activated for a tour of duty in Iraq in 2006.

While serving in Iraq, Bleill was severely injured, resulting in the loss of both of his legs. After extensive rehabilitation, he returned to Indiana in August of 2008, where he attacked his new life head-on. The new life included employment as the Indianapolis Colts Community Spokesperson. Indianapolis Colts Owner, Jim Irsay, has described Bleill as “very talented, bright-eyed, and skilled,” and he now travels the country to spread his message of hope, “one step at a time.”

“We are honored to be hosting Josh in honor of our area veterans and service men and women,” said Holly Sale, Foundation president. “Josh has a powerful testimony that everyone, young and old, will want to hear. I’m sure his courage and attitude will positively impact all of us as we fight our own trials and struggles.”

All servicemen and women at the breakfast will be recognized and provided with a free breakfast. Prior RSVP is requested. Please note the special date of Wednesday, November 4.

The Foundation breakfast is held on the second Wednesday of each month, October through May, and is open to the public. It will begin at 7:45 a.m. in the Habecker Dining Commons and conclude by 9 a.m. The cost of the breakfast is $10, a portion of which will help support the Huntington County Grant. First-time attendees eat free courtesy of Bailey-Love Mortuary. Foundation breakfasts occur on the second Wednesday of the month, October through May.

RSVPs are requested for the breakfast but are not required. For more information or to RSVP, contact Barb Baker at (260) 359-4069 or bbaker@huntington.edu.
