HR Group meetings beginning to evolve

Posted: Friday, February 22, 2013

The Huntington County Chamber of Commerce holds Human Resources - HR Group meetings ten months out of the year on the second Friday of each month. July and December are the only two months in which the group does not meet. The month of July has too many vacations and December finds everyone busy for the holidays.

The meetings began a couple of years ago to help educate human resource professionals in situations they manage on a daily basis. Since then, the group has begun to evolve into more than human resources; the group is becoming more of a professional development group. Some of the topics that have been discussed are Obamacare, health care trends, personnel and medical files, the right to work law, FMLA, synthetic drugs in the workplace and community, discrimination, harassment and retaliation, wellness programs, return to work policies, substance abuse and reasonable suspicion and a host of other topics.

The next meeting is scheduled for Friday, March 8. The meetings begin with registration at 11:30 a.m. and conclude at 1 p.m. The March meeting will be held at the Habecker Dining Commons on the campus of Huntington University. The March topic is titled: The Workflow of an Unemployment Claim. WorkOne Northeast and WorkOne Indianapolis will be the guest speakers. The group will hear how to manage a claim from beginning to end, how to appeal a claim and new and future laws of unemployment claims. The meetings are $10 with lunch provided.
