HR Group meetings beginning to evolve

Posted: Thursday, April 4, 2013

The Huntington County Chamber of Commerce holds Human Resources - HR Group meetings ten months out of the year on the second Friday of each month. July and December are the only two months in which the group does not meet. The April meeting will be held Friday, April 12.

The meetings began a couple of years ago to help educate human resource professionals in situations they manage on a daily basis. Since then, the group has begun to evolve into more than human resources; the group is becoming more of a professional development group. Some of the topics that have been discussed are Obamacare, health care trends, personnel and medical files, the right to work law, FMLA, synthetic drugs in the workplace and community, discrimination, harassment and retaliation, wellness programs, return to work policies, substance abuse and reasonable suspicion and a host of other topics.

The April meeting on Friday, April 12 will feature Shane Mulholland of Burt, Blee, Dixon, Sutton & Bloom Law Firm presenting. The meeting begins with registration at 11:30 a.m. and concludes at 1 p.m. It will be held at the Victory Noll Center, 1900 W. Park Drive. The topic is titled “Pre-Employment Pitfalls” - background checks, Fair Credit Reporting Act, drug testing, hiring policies and how the ADA can impact the hiring process. The meetings are $10 with lunch provided.
