Hougendobler celebrates 30 years in Huntington

Posted: Friday, May 22, 2015

Parkview Huntington Hospital honored Duane Hougendobler, MD, Parkview Physicians Group – Pediatrics, Parkview Huntington Hospital, on Friday, May 8, for his 30 years of service with Parkview Health. Hougendobler, a Huntington native and graduate of Huntington North High School, completed his doctorate of medicine from the Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis, in 1981. He immediately returned to his hometown to begin practicing medicine and providing care to Huntington County residents.

“Dr. Hougendobler is a talented pediatrician and has significantly impacted healthcare in the Huntington community. I value the contributions he has provided Parkview Huntington Hospital the past 30 years and his commitment to continually seek further engagement with his patients,” said Juli Johnson, president, Parkview Huntington Hospital.

As a pediatrician, Hougendobler has enjoyed the humbleness his career field has brought through preventative medicine and connecting with children to improve their well-being. To be a good servant of pediatric healthcare, connecting with children and understanding their story are significantly important. Hougendobler’s goal when interacting with his patients is to make them smile.

Hougendobler’s career has been an asset to Parkview Health and Parkview Huntington Hospital. Throughout his experiences, many individuals have influenced Dr. Hougendobler. He attributes much of his success to his nurse manager, Lisa Meyer, RN, Parkview Physicians Group. “I would not be where I am today without Lisa Meyer,” said Hougendobler. “She has been my guide and brings me back to reality. She is grounded in the community, which is helpful to understand what people want and expect.”

Coming back to Huntington County has been a rewarding experience for Hougendobler as he has been able to care for his classmates’ children, give back to the community through health initiatives, volunteering and much more. Hougendobler has been involved with the Boy Scouts of America, Relay for Life, the Autism Coalition team, Huntington County Child Advocacy Center, Inc. (DBA McKenzie’s Hope), Junior Achievement, various boards at Huntington University and other community opportunities.

“I try to keep it as local as I can. I eat here, buy here and stay in touch with the town. I appreciate the community supporting me, and so I try to give back as much as possible,” said Hougendobler.

Hougendobler has served on the Parkview Health board for nine years and the Parkview Huntington Hospital board. He continues to practice pediatric medicine.
