Holiday Concert to benefit Toys for Tots

Posted: Friday, November 21, 2014

Attendees at the Holiday concert featuring husband and wife duo The J Taylors will have the opportunity to help hundreds of Huntington County children have a merrier Christmas this year. The concert will be held on Friday, December 5 at the Cottage Event Center in Roanoke. Along with a portion of the ticket sales being donated to the Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots, audience members are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy for distribution to area families.

According to Huntington County Toys for Tots coordinator Tim McCoy, the local effort will provide gifts for over five hundred young people, from infants to teenagers. The organization will be collecting toys until mid-December utilizing drop off boxes at various businesses in the area.

The Toys for Tots program began in 1947 in Los Angeles when Major Bill Hendricks collected and distributed five thousand toys to California youngsters. The 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization has been supported over the years by such notable celebrities as John Wayne, Bob Hope, Johnny Carson, Tim Allen, Garth Brooks and Kenny Rogers and has to date delivered over 486 million toys. It is expected that the group will distribute toys to over 13 million children nationwide this year. More information may be obtained on the Toys for Tots website Local coordinator Tim McCoy may be contacted via email at

The J Taylors are comprised of Janelle and Jonathon Taylor from Fort Wayne. Both Huntington University graduates and they have been performing together since 2009 with a repertoire including Light Rock, Country, and more. The December 5 show is the pair’s third performance at the Cottage Event Center.
