Historical Society to sponsor Art Show, Contest

The Huntington County Historical Society is sponsoring the Hoosier Historical Fine Art Show & Contest. The event will feature artwork such as paintings, sketches, sculpting, photography, woodworking, collages and more of historic persons, places or events in Indiana.

Individuals ages 5 through adult are invited to enter their Indiana artwork of past or present history. The submission will include the artist’s interpretation of the significance of his or her work as it relates to Indiana. The art categories include painting: oil, acrylic or watercolor; sketching: pen and ink, pencil, pastels or charcoal; collage; photography, color, black and white, hand colored; sculpture; woodworking.

Prizes will be awarded for each of three age divisions and for the Best of Show, a $100 prize will be awarded. The three age divisions include ages 5 to 12, ages 13 to 18 and adults. Judging will be 50 percent Peoples’ Choice and 50 percent judges, with art and history backgrounds.

Submission forms with more specific information are available at the Huntington Historical Museum, 315 Court Street. Art projects will be accepted at the museum on October 17 through 20 and October 24 through 27. Peoples judging will take place between October 30 and November 10 during museum hours. The awards will be presented at the Historical Society general meeting held on Wednesday, November 14, 7 p.m., at the museum.
