Historic Forks need volunteers in many areas

Posted: Thursday, April 4, 2013

Volunteers are needed at the Historic Forks of the Wabash to help in many areas. A workshop will be announced for previous volunteers and those who wish to join the Forks’ roster of volunteers.

School Tours begin April 10 at the Forks and 15 people are needed to run a full school tour. These volunteers serve as guides, interpreters (storytellers) and workers in the gift shop. Eight other people make phones calls to schedule volunteers.

Buildings at the Forks require cleaning and the area needs a general “sprucing up” in the springtime. Volunteers are needed for dusting, sweeping, removing cobwebs and Asian beetles and washing windows.

Other activities scheduled at the Forks for 2013 include the Garage Sale, April 13, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Quilt Show, April 20 and 21; Miami Whippoorwill Gathering, June 15, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Heritage Days, June 22 and 23; July 4 celebration; Senior Day, August 20; Pioneer Festival, September 28 and 29; the annual meeting, November 5 and Christmas at the Forks, December 7 and 8.

To help at the Forks call Marie at the office at (260) 356-1903. Office hours are Tuesday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to Noon or leave a message. Visit the website at
