Heritage Days bed building workshop offered

Posted: Thursday, April 4, 2013

Heritage Days will once again feature a Bed Race on Saturday, June 22 during the Balloon Launch and Glow. The Bed Race will take place in front of Huntington North High School beginning at 7:30 p.m. Participants will need to sign in by 7 p.m.

A bed building workshop is scheduled at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 23 at The ReStore located off of Hauenstein Road. The workshop will feature help for the building of bed frames and The ReStore will supply the 2x4 lumber at no charge. Participants can then add their own wheels and headboards. The ReStore is also a good source for wheels and headboards as the items are donated by the public. The overall bed width will include the bed frame and wheels.

All ages may take part in the Bed Race, but due to its fast-paced nature it is recommended that children under the age of 15 be accompanied by a parent or older sibling who will play a part in the race and be on the same team. Participants are required to wear good running shoes. Flip-flops, sandals or bare feet will not be allowed. All participants must also sign a waiver relinquishing the Huntington County Chamber of Commerce and the city of Huntington of all responsibility.

Prizes will be awarded to the first three winning places: first place, $100; second place, $75 and third place $25. Dan Juergens, Juergens Do-It-Best and Heritage Days steering committee member is the organizer of the Bed Race. The entry deadline is Friday, June 14, 2013. Entry forms are available at the Huntington County Chamber of Commerce office, 305 Warren Street, or online at www.huntingtoncountychamber.com.
