Heritage Days 2020 dates, theme announced

Posted: Friday, December 20, 2019

Huntington’s Heritage Days celebration for 2020 will be held Wednesday, June 17 through Sunday, June 21. Streets involved in the event will close at 3 p.m. on Monday, June 15.

The Heritage Days Steering Committee has also announced the theme. Heritage Days 2020 will celebrate The ’70s: 200 Years of Freedom, when Huntington along with the nation celebrated our country’s 200th birthday and 200 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Those living in that decade looked forward to the 1976 Bicentennial celebration when festivities were well planned for the remembrance of July 4, 1776.

The ’70s will be celebrated as part of the ongoing effort to explore our heritage. Festivities celebrating Huntington’s 57th Heritage Days will be held at locations throughout the community. Sponsorship for Heritage Days 2020 is currently being sought by the Huntington County Chamber of Commerce. Those interested in being the corporate sponsor can find the sponsorship form on the Chamber’s website here. The deadline is Friday, February 21, 2020, and the sponsorship will be awarded to the highest bidder.

The ’70s were filled with many changes and trends that had a positive and interesting impact on the life of Huntingtonians. A commemorative historical handbook celebrating Huntington’s Centennial in 1973, showed 90 well-diversified industries, 14 public schools, a newspaper, radio station, 6 parks, 28 churches, three financial institutions, Jefferson Park Mall and Huntington Plaza shopping center with 22 retail outlets. Development continued at Riverfork Industrial Park and industries were locating there, the current gymnasium and auditorium opened at Huntington North High School with the 1975-76 school year, Norwood Golf Course was built, housing additions and new homes continued to be built.

Heritage Days are coordinated by a Steering Committee of the Huntington County Chamber of Commerce. For more information contact the Chamber at (260) 356-5300 or visit the website at
