Posted: Friday, October 16, 2015

Jana Henly will be this year’s Arts Advocate at the LaFontaine Arts Council’s “Fashions for the Arts.” The event will be held beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 7 at the LaFontaine Golf Club. Henly’s presentation will be part of the overall program, which includes social time, a silent auction, lunch and a fashion show featuring clothing from Carson’s.

Henly is a graduate of Huntington North High School and Indiana University. During her college years, she competed twice in the Miss Indiana Scholarship Pageant, first as Miss Huntington and then as Miss North Central Indiana, and placed in the top ten both times.

The professional vocalist then entertained for almost a decade as lead singer and vocal captain on various cruise lines, including Celebrity Cruises, P&O Cruises, NCL and Holland American Line. Henly has appeared in musicals and operas throughout the Midwest. Her favorite roles include Sister Mary Amnesia in “Nunsense,” The White Witch in “Narnia the Musical,” Audrey in “Little Shop of Horrors” and Maria in “West Side Story.”

Now back in her hometown, Henly is currently teaching technology at Flint Springs Elementary School and is serving as assistant director of a production of “Peter Pan” at the Pulse Opera House. At “Fashions for the Arts,” Henly will speak about the importance of the arts to young people and will perform a couple of songs for the audience.

Tickets for the event are currently on sale and can be reserved by calling LAC executive Director Debbie Dyer at (260) 358-0055. Additional information can be found on the LAC’s Facebook page. All proceeds from “Fashion for the Arts” go toward the LAC’s “Arts in Education” programming, which brings quality arts programming to all students in Huntington County.
