Heart and Stroke Gala to be held April 11

Posted: Friday, February 21, 2014

The American Heart Association’s Fort Wayne Heart and Stroke Gala will be held Friday, April 11. The event will be held from 6 to 11p.m., at Ceruti’s Banquet & Event Center.

The American Heart Association believes this event promises to be an engaging evening of fun and passion, bringing community and philanthropic leaders together. They will be celebrating their work and mission; donors and volunteers and the lives saved and improved because of their volunteer’s efforts.

The Fort Wayne Heart and Stroke Gala benefits the American Heart Association (AHA) and raises monies to continue the “fight against heart disease and stroke” – the nation’s #1 and #4 killers of men and women — and the AHA’s lifesaving mission of building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.

In the past five years, 2008 to 2012, the American Heart Association has funded 77 studies at six Indiana institutions at a cost of over $8.7 million including 50 studies at Indiana University investing almost $5 million. Through research and education the AHA believes lifesaving advances are being made.

The American Heart Association is also the American Stroke Association. This year the Fort Wayne Heart and Stroke Gala will focus heavily on stroke, and educate on the awareness of stroke symptoms and prevention. The StrokeCareNow Network, a collaboration of Fort Wayne Neurological Center, Lutheran Health and Parkview Health, will be honored for their innovative efforts to improve quality stroke treatment for patients in Southwest Michigan, Northwest Ohio and Northeast Indiana.

The Heart and Stroke Gala will be led by chairman Michael GeRue, senior vice president of Parkview Health NeuroScience & Cardiovascular Service Line. He will be working alongside a team of dedicated volunteers whose mission is to make Fort Wayne a healthy community and stand side by side with the American Heart Association in the fight against heart disease and stroke. The Heart and Stroke Gala is one of the premiere black-tie events in Fort Wayne. Guests will be greeted with many surprises, as well as educational and inspiring survivor stories. The event will include music, food and fun. For more information contact Emily Hayes at (260) 433-2110 or Emily.Hayes@heart.org.
