Healthy Steps encourages well-being, screenings

Posted: Friday, September 22, 2017

Parkview Huntington Hospital will once again host its semi-annual health fair, Healthy Steps, on Saturday, October 7. Visitors can take advantage of free health screenings and services, reduced-cost lab tests, information on medical conditions, healthy lifestyle tips, and imaging services. New for October is the opportunity to meet two clinicians who are new to Huntington County – a primary care physician and a certified nurse midwife.

Free health screenings are available for hearing, vision, bone density, balance, dental health and skin cancer. Body-fat analysis, grip strength testing, and breathing assessment are also free.

“Healthy Steps offers a convenient way for people to get important tests and screenings so they can be proactive about their well-being,” says Juli Johnson, president, Parkview Huntington Hospital. “Plus they can get to know the hospital team members who can be resources for them on their personal health journey.”

Guests can talk one-on-one with healthcare professionals on many topics, such as prenatal classes and becoming a Parkview Mom, diabetes management, orthopedic concerns/surgery, stroke, lung cancer screening, asthma management, hand-washing and infection prevention, healthy eating, exercise and stretching, and safety.

Meet new providers Ryan Allen, DO, Parkview Physicians Group – Family Medicine, and Shelly Boone, NP, CNM (certified nurse midwife), Parkview Physicians Group – OB/GYN, will be on hand to talk with guests. Both are new to the Huntington area, and as women’s health providers, will deliver babies at the hospital.

Diagnostic imaging HeartSmart CT Scans and digital mammograms will be performed in the hospital’s Diagnostic Imaging department. Scheduled appointments are required; call (260) 355-3400. Gift certificates for the $50 HeartSmart CT Scan – a painless 15-minute, non-invasive test that can detect early heart disease and can be purchased anytime at the hospital.

A specialist will be at the event to help visitors create MyChart accounts. MyChart lets users schedule appointments, view test results, refill prescriptions, and send questions to their Parkview Physicians Group doctors, all at their own convenience.
