Habitat returns to to kick off build season

Posted: Thursday, April 8, 2021

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Fort Wayne will kick off their 2021 build season in Huntington on Drover Street beginning April 14. Ashlee Cochrane and son can’t wait to see work begin on their home and to ultimately achieve the goal of homeownership.

“We are excited to partner with the Huntington community in an effort to bring the Cochrane family’s dream of homeownership to fruition,” said Andrew Gritzmaker, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Fort Wayne CEO. “None of it would have been possible without their dedication and the support of this amazing community.”

Their home will be built on Drover Street, where Habitat has built several homes in previous years.

Habitat staff will join the Cochranes, Huntington community leaders, and local business leaders to celebrate the start of the build with a press conference on April 14 at 9:30 a.m. Construction of the home will begin with volunteers and staff immediately following the press conference. Construction of the Cochranes’ home marks the start of Habitat’s 2021 build season. Habitat plans to build 12 new homes this build season. Locations include Huntington, New Haven, and three Southeast Fort Wayne neighborhoods.

Anyone wanting to get involved with Habitat as a construction volunteer, lunch donor, or financial donor can visit habitatgfw.com for more information.

JJ’s will be providing coffee and doughnuts and Mayor Strick will speak and will help build the first walls. If you would like to join us in volunteering that day, simply follow this link to secure your spot: http://huntingtoncommunityleaders.habitatgfw.volunteerhub.com/.
