Posted: Friday, January 26, 2018

The Youth Services Bureau held the annual dinner last evening, January 25 at St. Peter’s First Community Church. The theme for the event was “Celebrating Everyday Heroes.”

Mayor Brooks Fetters welcomed those in attendance and gave the invocation. Election of officers and board recognition began the evening. Jan Williams, director of the YSB, was honored for her 23 years of service and Ira Bencun, ten years. A video “Celebrating Everyday Heroes” was shown to the group.

Special awards were presented to individuals who have benefitted the youth of the community with their service. The Youth Volunteer of the Year Award went to Jack Young. The Youth Services Bureau staff received the Adult Volunteers award. Rick Reed, Herb Scott and Jan Hildebrand were each presented with a Friend of Youth award.

Adam Fusselman, YSB board treasurer, presented the Steven L. Bailey Memorial Award to Jamie Groves. The Steven L. Bailey award has been presented each year since 1999 to someone who demonstrates a strong compassion for the youth and families of Huntington County. The nominee can be an individual or a group who has made a positive impact in the lives of young people through activities that empower, encourage and support youth. The award is presented in memory of Steven L. Bailey, who passed away in 1998 when he was president of the YSB board.
