‘Grab & Go’ food distribution Thursday only

Posted: Friday, March 27, 2020

The Huntington County Community School Corporation has announced it will change the days of its “Grab & Go” food distribution to children to Thursdays only.

HCCSC Food Services Director Ken Akins says the lack of food available from the district’s vendors due to the coronavirus pandemic is the reason school officials decided to reduce the distribution days to only once per week.

Schools that will have food available to children age 18 and younger include Huntington North High School, Door No. 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.; and Andrews, Salamonie and Roanoke elementary schools (all Door No. 1) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Riverview Middle School will no longer be a distribution site.

At HNHS, food service personnel will hand the bags of food to those in their cars; the elementary schools will continue to have a pickup table. There is no cost for the food, provided under HCCSC’s summer food distribution program.
