Gerdau receives company safety award

Posted: Friday, October 28, 2011

The World Steel Association has presented the Gerdau Corporation, Huntington location at 25 Commercial Road, with its Safety and Health Excellence Recognition award. The award was presented during the association’s 45th annual meeting October 9 through 12 in Paris, France for the company’s safety practices.

A safety policy/procedure known as “The Molten Steel Path” led to the Gerdau’s recognition. The project is designed to ensure safe procedures during the melting process, refining and transportation of liquid steel. The safety policy was developed to ensure the safety of staff and equipment in the stages where the operation with the liquid steel are carried out.

The project’s implementation began in 2007 in Gerdau’s Brazil operations and is currently being used in all of Gerdau’s steel mills.
