Gerdau plans $17 million expansion

Posted: Friday, October 14, 2011

Gerdau Special Steel broke ground for a $17 million expansion at the Gerdau plant, 25 Commercial Road, on Wednesday morning, October 12. Company officials, county representatives and Felderman Design Build were on hand for the beginning of the project. Construction will begin within the week with the entire addition being functional within 16 months.

Twenty new jobs will be created by the expansion and add new capabilities to the factory, according to Kendall Mickley, plant manager for the Gerdau Huntington facility. Gerdau’s Huntington plant expansion will create the ability to turn and polish, have inspection capabilities, induction stress relief and straightening and cutting of steel, which will add value to the end product. The steel is at present sent to another plant for quenching and tempering.
